What is the CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser with Salicylic Acid for?

CeraVe's SA Smoothing Cleanser gently exfoliates the skin helping to alleviate rough and bumpy skin texture, formulated with 0.5% Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxy acid which means it penetrate deep into the skin and helps to;

Clear blocked pores; preventing blackheads and blemishes.
Treat acne by reducing swelling and redness with it's anti-inflammatory properties.
Soften the skin to treat dry, flaky, scaly and thickened skin.
Exfoliate the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and refreshed.
Targets excess sebum on oily, blemish-prone skin types.

Key Ingredients In CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser:

Salicylic Acid(0.5%): A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that gently exfolaites the skin targeting pimples and blackheads, and helps to soften dry, rough skin. This allows the SA Renewing cleanser to be free from physical exfoliants (microbeads), which can irritate the skin.

Because salicylic acid is an oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid (compared to glycolic or lactic) it is especially great for oiler skin types. I'm 49, and don't have acne, but still have very oily skin, and this works beautifully as a non-irritating exfoliant. My skin is clearer, brighter, and younger looking after I added this to my skincare routine. If you have dryer skin, I would start off using twice a week (using a mild cleanser on other days) to prevent dryness. Also, you should avoid any other scrub type exfoliator while using this product to avoid irritation. You really will achieve renewed healthier skin with regular use of this product.

As a cold, windy, dry winter sets in, I found that my skin was getting very dry and flaky, but that the peeling exfoliator I'd been using (which
... used cellulose -- plant pulp) to scrub away dead skin was no longer working the way I wanted. I was getting small, uninflamed bumps in tricky areas of my skin and dryness everywhere else. I'd never tried a chemical exfoliant before but, after trying this out a couple of times, I was content to throw out the remainder of my physical exfoliant. It dissolves away the clinging dead skin without damaging the healthy skin. I find that, after using it, some parts of my face are slightly pink and irritated, but I use it only once or twice a week at night, put on a heavy moisturizer after use, and wake up with smooth skin and without dryness or irritation.

Although not specifically targeted for people with oily skin, if you have especially dry skin, this might not be the best product for you as salicylic acid is somewhat drying - lactic acid, however, would serve you well, because it is remarkably gentle and does wonders for the level of moisture in the skin.
