All you need to know about Concealer

How do I conceal dark circles with concealer?

Covering up dark circles is about cancelling out their tone as much as it is about covering them up. You need to colour-correct the tone of your dark circles. Choose a concealer with pink, warm undertones, as this helps to cancel out the blue and grey colours under your eyes. When you apply it, pat it with your finger to blend, or use a damp beauty blender. Use concealer not just over the dark circle, but around the surrounding eye area, so you can blend everything together perfectly.

How much concealer should I be applying?

When it comes to concealer, less is generally more. The more you pile up under the eye area, the more chance you have of creasing, which isn't a great look. While it can be tempting to cover up with loads of product, this will actually draw more attention to the area. If you have more fine lines under your eyes, you should use a thin-consistency concealer and apply it lightly, gradually building up as you need more. Always set your concealer with some translucent powder to make it last all day.

When should I apply concealer in my make-up routine?

Some people find that they prefer to apply concealer before or after foundation – there isn't really a right or wrong way to do this, it's all about what works best for you. Some make-up artists do however think that you should only apply concealer to the under-eye area, with no foundation underneath, as this makes it easier to blend and build-up.

How should I set my concealer?

Use a very light face powder or ideally a translucent powder and dust it over your concealer after application to keep it lasting all day long. If brushes don't work for you and you find the concealer creases after a few hours, use a wet beauty blender and dip it into some loose face powder before applying it and blending under the eye – this should keep your concealer in place all day long.
