Solgar Digestive Enzymes Tablets 100
Solgar Digestive Enzymes, is a unique proprietary complex that helps support your digestive system and the absorption of your food. By taking 1-3 tablets of Solgar Digestive Enzymes a day, you are helping your body to digest the food you eat and absorb the nutrients you need.
The digestive process is a complex system in which the body breaks down the food that we eat into nutrients with the help of digestive enzymes, which are produced in the pancreas and small intestines. If we do not have enough digestive enzymes, our body cannot break down our food completely and even though we are eating a healthy and balanced diet, the nutrients aren’t being absorbed efficiently. Food allergies, low stomach acid and chronic stress all have an impact on the production of digestive enzymes. If you feel you need some extra digestive support after meals, using Solgar Digestive Enzymes Tablets may help. This specialist formula includes ox bile, betaine, pancreatin, aspergillus oryzae, papain and pesin extract. Each of these enzymes target different food groups to give a holistic approach to the digestion from food into nutrients.
All Solgar products meet our industry recognized “Gold Standard” for excellence. Made using naturally sourced ingredients and innovating since 1947, Solgar is your perfect supplement to good health – 98% of Solgar consumers recommend the brand*

I had pretty much resigned myself to a life of spinach, eggs, nuts and cheese (I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't have a problem with dairy). Then at Xmas, my uncle - who also suffers with IBS - let me try some of his Pancreatin enzymes. I cautiously tried a few of my trigger foods (no alcohol or dessert though), half expecting to spend the evening curled in in bed - but it seemed to work! I tried a few triggers the day after returning home (with no enzymes) and had cramping as usual, so I got onto amazon and found these.
They contain a bunch of different enzymes, including a full dose of Pancreatin, and they seem to be working. In fact, last night I decided to do the ultimate test. I ate a large dinner composed ENTIRELY of my worst trigger foods. Usually I would be gassy and cramping within an hour of eating hummus, kale or cruciferous veg, but I was fine all night, and all morning. My inner hippie health nut is over the moon :)
Overall I'm very pleased with these enzymes. They are much cheaper, and more effective than Beano (which helps only if I take 3 at a time, and eat very small portions of triggers).
My only gripe is that they contain ox bile - the irony of needing animal products to be able to digest veggie/vegan meals :'(
However I suspect this is a by-product of the meat industry anyway (I doubt there are ox-bile specific farms) and I believe it is more respectful to make use of by-products than to waste them. I'm not going to lose sleep over this.
