What is Myo-Inositol?

Inositol is a natural sugar produced by our bodies and found in some foods such as citrus fruits, and high-fibre foods like beans and brown rice. There are 9 forms of Inositol, the two most common forms are Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol. The others are Scylio-inositol, Epi-inositol, Cis-inositol, L-chiro-inositol, Muco-inositol, Allo-inositol, and Neo-inositol. Inositol is often referred to as Vitamin B8, except it is not actually a vitamin but rather a vitamin-like substance as it plays the role in the structure of cell membranes and other processes. It also influences insulin levels and the body’s response to hormones linked to mood and cognition. Therefore, Inositol can provide many health-related benefits for various medical conditions.

Myo-inositol plays an important role as the structural basis for a number of secondary messengers and in recent years has been studied extensively in relation to its role in insulin signalling. Supplementation has become popular and it is now widely recommended by practitioners, particularly for those with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Lamberts powdered Myo-inositol is 100% natural and affords an easy and convenient way to supplement the diet with daily doses of 4g, which is the level used in the majority of studies. Many inositol capsules contain just 500mg.

Lamberts' highly soluble, pleasant tasting powdered form is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
